River Lee towpath improvements at Cheshunt - 19th November 2009

During November our 70 tonne motor barge “Clitheroe” has been busy on the River Lee delivering aggregates and topsoil to a British Waterways contractor engaged in towpath improvement works at Cheshunt.

One tonne bags of aggregates and topsoil were delivered to a canal side site in the Hoddesdon area by articulated lorry and loaded into “Clitheroe” using a lorry mounted crane. About 50 bags were loaded at a time and then transported down the River Lee to the working site at Cheshunt.

Using a 5 tonne hiab crane mounted in “Clitheroe” the 1 tonne bags of material were unloaded from the barge directly onto the towpath at Cheshunt for the contractor’s operatives to use on the towpath improvement work.

The round trip from Hoddesdon to Cheshunt and back, including unloading the material onto the towpath, was comfortably achieved in a normal working day allowing the barge to load first thing each morning. A total of around 800 bags of material were delivered to the site in Cheshunt during November.
