Braunston Tunnel Cutting, Daventry 22nd February 2010

Towards the end of February our small plant pontoon “Hampton” together with a Bantam tug “Weaver” and a 60 tonne barge equipped with a 6 tonne hiab and clam shell grab were transported by road to Braunston to work on the canal bank slippage at Braunston Tunnel for one of British Waterway’s maintenance contractors.

The plant pontoon has a 5 tonne excavator on board which is installing nicospan bank protection on the off side of the tunnel cutting. The barge and hiab will be used to transport approx 2000 cubic metres of earth removed from the slippage at the tunnel mouth which will then reused as back fill behind the nicospan so as to avoid having to take this material off site.
