Pershore Flood Alleviation Scheme 3rd August 2010

During the summer two of our Bantam Pusher tugs,” Springwell” and “Scouser”, have been working on the River Avon below Pershore moving clay for a contractor working on behalf of the Environment Agency.

The clay is being used to construct flood embankments as part of the Pershore Flood Alleviation Scheme which has come about because of extensive flooding in the summer of 2007.

Some 15,000 cubic metres of clay are being transported by barge from Birlingham as part of the construction phase of this scheme saving over 3000 lorry journeys and 15 tonnes of CO2.

The tugs and barges are moving approximately 500 to 600 tonnes of clay per day and we are currently on schedule to complete the transport of clay by the end of August.
