Road Bridge Repairs in West London, 24th February 2011

At the end of January three of our barges were engaged on road bridge repair works in West Drayton and Uxbridge. The contractor, Structural Renovations, had to carry out repairs to the main road bridge crossing the canal in West Drayton and also Rockingham Road Bridge crossing the canal in Uxbridge.

“Jim II”, one of our Dutch barges, housed a welfare unit with canteen and mains generator and provided storage space for the contractor’s materials. “Cowley” a smaller barge, provided a platform for the contractor’s access scaffold tower. “Southam”, an ex-BW workflat acted as a support vessel for tools, storage and access to the underside of the bridges.

The work was scheduled over a nine week period starting at the end of January in West Drayton and then moving to Uxbridge in early March. One of our pusher tugs moved all three barges on one day from West Drayton to Uxbridge ready for the contractors to start work on the second bridge.
