MTV Studios refurbishment,
Camden, July 2012
A contractor working on behalf of MTV
Studios has been refurbishing the MTV building and studios in
Camden. This is an on-going project allowing the studios to continue
operating while the building works take place around them. One side
of the building is boarded by the Regent’s Canal in Camden adjacent
to Hawley Lock.
A demolition contractor started to
demolish the interior of the studios on the canal side of the
building in July and opted to remove the demolition waste by barge
as this was the most efficient way of getting the waste out of the
building and caused least disruption to the working studios.
WHH supplied a 21.5m by 3.8m hopper
barge (50 cu metres capacity) which is moored in the disused lock
chamber adjacent to the studios currently being refurbished. The
demolition waste is taken to Powerday’s recycling facility at
Willesden which is about a two and half hour journey by canal.
